City, State, and Federal Budget Policies Monitoring Task Force

This committee interviews budget staff and decision makers in order to develop an overall understanding of how mayoral control, state legislative decisions (or lack of decisions) on the CFE court ruling, and the federal No Child Left Behind and Medicaid enforcement have changed the dynamics of city, state, and federal funding practices.

Special Education Funding Monitoring Task Force

Miguel Salazar, Chair

This committee learns how to track special education funding, interviews budget staff, and works on developing a policy on how special education should be funded at the state level, when and if a new education funding structure is adopted.

Overcrowding and Class Size Reduction Task Force

Betty Machol, Chair

This committee monitors changes in the adopted capital plan and SCA construction projects and pursues two advocacy objectives: 1) to have the Department of Education do a survey of where schools have sufficient space for an additional building (in overcrowded districts only) and 2) the enforcement of class size reduction budget requirements, if this funding remains in the state budget.
