From Noreen Connell and Martine Guerrier:

On the radio or tv, you may get a news report that the Senate and the Assembly are passing school aid reform plans or education funding bills. Hopefully, this will clear up any misunderstanding that these news reports will create:

Last week, the Assembly and the Senate passed resolutions related to their CFE plans which included calculations of school aid.

Today, Monday, June 21st both chambers will vote on bills related to the specifics of their plans.  They are NOT voting on the state budget.  Since these bills differ, they are "one-house" bills and will go nowhere. Stay tuned as the budget battle continues.  If you have not already done so, please call the Governor and the leadership of the Senate and the Assembly to
voice your support for providing NYC with a downpayment on a CFE plan to provide funds to high-needs districts and funds for new school construction and Building Aid reform. It is important that you call today and tomorrow so that there is a show of public support on this issue at the same time that AQE & CFE are holding their Albany rally. If you are not going to Albany to join the rally, take three minutes to make these calls, preferably to Albany. See below
for telephone numbers:

  • Governor Pataki (212) 681-4580; (518) 474-8390 (will ask for your zip code)
  • Senate Majority Leader Bruno (518) 455-3191 (will ask for your zip code)
  • Assembly Majority Speaker Silver (212) 312-1420; (518) 455-3791 (will ask for
    your address)
